Arrival in Adelaide

Port Augusta was quite familiar territory for us so the only sightseeing we did was to visit the Arid Gardens. The last two times we had been through here the weather was not conducive to wandering around the gardens but this time it suited so we spent a very pleasant morning there after having stopped at the Red Cliff lookout. Trying to imagine how Matthew Flinders would have felt standing on top of the red cliff looking up the narrowing waterway which was Spencer's Gulf, was impossible and did leave one with a great respect for the explorers.

Half way between Port Augusta and Adelaide we stopped off at Port Wakefield which is a small village with interesting old buildings and the caravan park backed on to a weir which then looked across saltbush plains. A pleasant spot.

Tom Tom guided us well through the Adelaide traffic to the Brown Hill Creek caravan park which is set in a valley with steep hills on either side, very well treed and not yet overcrowded although the general consensus seems to be that by next weekend the Clipsal races will fill all vacant spots. The Mitcham shops are a 5 minute drive away and cater for most wants. The railway takes 15 minutes into the centre of Adelaide so certainly beats trying to find and pay for parking cars. The Caravan show was on the first weekend here so we had a look at what was around and decided that everyone seems to be looking for bigger rigs - interesting nonetheless.
We visited the Central Markets this morning. They are open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and after having been semi starved for choice this was a revelations. Size wise it would have to be at lease 5 times the size of Fyshwick and we became tired just having a look at all the options. Very impressive.

Through all our travels the wireless card has been really excellent and we were able to access almost everywhere apart from some of the roadhouses and Elliston. However here, there seems to be intermittent reception - maybe because of the hills. The other thing that we have noticed recently is that a few comments are being posted to the blog - don't bother to try to read them as they are trying to flog Viagra and we have not found how to block them!!!
