Katherine to Kununurra

Before leaving Katherine we visited Springvale Homestead, one of the first properties in the area. We also looked at the new Jurassic Gardens which had displays of Cycads, succulents and various other cacti. That evening we were entertained by the local bush fire brigade trying to extinguish a raging grass fire which came to within 100metres of the park (see picture taken from our van)
Early start on Saturday (8am) which meant we arrived at Timber Creek just after 12pm in time to get a good site for the night. The drive was uneventful and we only saw two road trains, fortunately going in the opposite direction. The owners at Timber Creek put on a Crocodile feeding display at 5pm daily which we watched (from a distance). We were surprised at how good Telstra reception was, even road stops like Timber Creek having full service.
Sunday saw us once again leaving by 8am for the drive to Kununurra. Weather could not have been better and the only delays were caused by the Jay walking Brahmans. On arrival at the WA border the clock went to Perth time so we gained one and a half hours, arriving at the park just after 9am. We were delighted to have been allocated what we think is the best ensuite site in the park where we intend to stay for the next three weeks.
