Well we now can say we have crossed the big paddock. The drive from Norseman to Ceduna took us four days driving, averaging about 300 km a day. The road was quite good if a little narrow in places such as the 90 mile straight which meant that when the road trains (which there were many) came opposite, we were both half on the gravel. The scenery was fairly uninspiring for much of the time with a few highlights such as looking across to the Southern Ocean from the Eucla Caravan park at the top of the escarpment and the view from the top of the cliffs at the Great Australian Bight. Some of the scenic lookouts were closed and the signs indicated that it is unwise to get too close to the edge due to the crumbling thereof.

The roadhouses were pretty much as you would expect but Cocklebiddy now has a new set of amenities which were sparkling. We were also pleasantly surprised that petrol costs stayed under $2 per litre. The most we paid was at Cocklebiddy and that was $1.856/l. We also timed our travel to avoid the high winds which seem to get up around midday. There was a willy willy which thought we needed a fright as it started a sway which Rob did control without any damage.

Overall four interesting days separating west and east Australia. We doubt we will rush back to redo this section in a hurry but we are certainly glad we did it this once.
